Personal Statement:
“I identify with the figures in my paintings they are searching, often feeling about in the dark, navigating slowly while looking for something.
In my paintings single and multiple figures predominate. Thin-skinned beings who are everyone and no-one. They are contemporary, other-worldly and from the ages of time.
Many of my paintings have a recurring cast of characters. With these characters I try to give expression in colours and form that which words cannot express.
I feel I need to understand and confront through a tangible medium. That’s why I paint. I have heard it described as an exorcism from the body through the mind.
I attempt to find meaning through separating myself from my thoughts and then following them through with my actions. My goal is to capture even just a fraction of the naivete and complexity of my surroundings.
Amongst other things to capture the juxtaposition of the innocent associations of youth and the horror of maturation. With this said, there is nothing quite so beautiful as the unintentional.”
